Top-mounted secretary, Leipzig, probably Friedrich Gottlob HOFFMANN, around 1805
Secretary with a monumental, gabled top, with ebonized columns placed above the corner and in the middle and a medallion in Wedgwood style.
There are also ebonized doors on the left and right, which were worked as so-called figure niches and can be opened. Two large drawers in the lower section and a vertical writing surface, veneered on the sides and inside. Rich, architecturally designed and finely crafted interior, with a fan-shaped ornament in the shape of a crescent moon at the top center and a small central door inlaid with various types of wood below.
A small cavity above the boxes, above which there are letter compartments on both sides. Various secret compartments.
Selected birch veneer on softwood, in different colors and veins, also selected maple and burl wood. In order not to disturb the expressive veneer pattern in the front of the secretary, handles on the drawers and the writing surface were omitted and instead key plates worked in bone were attached.
Excellent workmanship, selected veneers, very elegant, architectural design, probably made in the workshop of Friedrich Gottlob Hoffmann, Leipzig (1741-1806) due to the quality and workmanship.
Restored with maximum care and hand-polished with shellac!
